5/29/02 Venture Capital firms: portfolios brimming with troubled companies, SageGroup forms Liaison Group

Alameda CA-May 29, 2002 -- SageGroup Strategies, the largest professional troubled-company specialist firm in the USA, announces a new Group dedicated to working with venture capital firms.

Aptly named the Venture Capital Firm Liaison Group, its focus is on restarting the under-performing assets in a venture capital firm's portfolio. The declining interest in dot-com and other high-tech ventures has tightened the financing markets. SageGroup has spoken with several venture capital firms that testify to the difficulties they are experiencing while holding portfolios of numerous troubled companies that cannot get financed or be made profitable. SageGroup has years of experience and successes with troubled high-tech and other companies. Having rescued hundreds of troubled companies, SageGroup expects that its new Venture Capital Firm Liaison Group will be a major asset to the VC industry.

Mr. Steve Craig, a SGS Senior Director and Co-Manager in SGS's Silicon Valley Office, stated, "Most of the VC firms have several under-performing assets in their portfolio now. They have made major investments of time and money in companies that are going nowhere. Wisely, the VC's are primarily focused on moving their best investments forward and accordingly can't focus as much attention on their troubled companies. That's where we come in."

Mr. John Zipp, another SGS Senior Director and Co-Manager in SGS's Silicon Valley Office, added, "SGS professionals have rescued hundreds of troubled companies over the years. We know exactly what to do since we have done it over and over again. We have worked with a variety of VC firms in the past and are looking forward to expanding our client base throughout North America now that SGS has strategically expanded the Venture Capital Firm Liaison Group representation at many of the 30 SGS offices nationally.
